For most families, residency is about everyone, not only the investor. The good news is that one investment can cover your spouse and your children. The rules were tightened in May 2023, however, so check who qualifies before you plan.
Your spouse
Your husband or wife can be included in your application as a dependant. For each spouse you must show an additional €15,000 a year of secured income, on top of your own €50,000. You will need a certified marriage certificate, with a translation if it is not in Greek or English.
Children under 18
Minor children are included as dependants. For each child you show an additional €10,000 a year of income. You need their birth certificates, certified and translated where necessary.
Students aged 18 to 25
Unmarried children aged 18–25 can also obtain residency if, on the date of application, they are studying at a university or college abroad and are financially dependent on you. They file their own application, with its own fee, and you show an additional €10,000 a year for each of them.
Adult children who are not students
Adult children who are not dependent students cannot ride on your application. They need their own investment and income. For example, some guides describe a separate investment of €600,000 if one adult child is included, or €900,000 for two, under specific conditions. Ask your lawyer about your case.
Parents and parents-in-law
Before May 2023 parents could be included. This is no longer possible. Your parents or your spouse’s parents need to qualify on their own, for example with their own investment and income, or under a different type of permit.
Income needed – example family
- Main applicant: €50,000
- Spouse: + €15,000
- Two children under 18: + €20,000
- Total secured annual income: €85,000
Income should come from sources outside Cyprus and be proven with tax returns or an accountant’s certificate.
Documents for family members
- Valid passports for everyone.
- Marriage and birth certificates, certified (apostille or consular legalisation) and translated into Greek or English.
- Criminal record certificates for adult family members.
- Health insurance for every person, if not covered by the public system.
- For students: proof of enrolment and of financial dependence.
After approval
The permit is reviewed through yearly confirmations of income and insurance. Adult family members provide new criminal record certificates every three years. Family members also lose the permit if they stay outside Cyprus for more than two years in a row.
